Another feather has been added to the well decorated cap of the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, as he received another award from a reputable international women focused organisation, ‘WOMEN AT THE WELL’, which is dedicated to uplifting and empowering vulnerable women across the world.
The Unsung Heroes Award ’25, as the “Most Outstanding Council Chairman”, presented by the Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, on behalf of the group, was in recognition and acknowledgement of Engr. Ehiwarior’s distinctive exploits in infrastructure and community development.
Sir Onyeme, who was Chairman of the occasion, which took place at Inspiration Garden Hotel And Suites, Asaba, Saturday, said he was proud of the recorded milestone so far achieved by Engr. Ehiwarior, whom he referred to as, “a resourceful young man who has committed himself to good governance and accountable leadership.”
The Deputy Governor added,”I am proud for what he has been able to do for his people. His performance has become a reference point, and has proven that the youths, when given opportunity, could translate their youthful strengths and knowledge to improving the society.”
He praised the Founder/CEO of Women At The Well, Dr. Jessica Edmund, and other members, for joining in helping to lift burden off under-privileged women in the society.
Onyeme called on well meaning individuals and groups to complement the efforts of government, adding that government alone could not do it, as it requires the support and inputs of everybody.
Engr. Ehiwarior, speaking after receiving the award, thanked the group, especially its president, Dr. Jessica Edmund, for the honour, saying it would go a long way in encouraging him to continue to put in his best to build a better and prosperous Ika South Local Government Area.
He noted that the decision of the group to lend helping a hand to the vulnerable in the society was a laudable one, pointing out that their actions had become a strong message of hope to those in need.
He urged others to emulate the group by reaching out to the underprivileged in the community, especially women and children.
“What you are doing is very commendable. It is something worth encouraging and supporting. Like I always say, government needs the support of all and sundry to make our society a better place. I will urge you not to be weary but to remain steadfast in empowering our mothers, sisters and wives,” he implored
Speaking earlier, the President of ‘Women At The Well,’ Dr. Jessica Edmund, disclosed that recipients were carefully selected based on records of achievements in their different areas of engagements.
