There is growing uneasiness and anxiety within the members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State over the inability of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to harmonize the party since he, and his crumbled party, the defunct PDP took shelter in party.
The worries amongst the APC footsodiers stemmed from the failure of the governor to implement most of his promises to the party .
Overwhelming numbers of the party at the grassroots are not disposed to the idea of returning Governor Oborevwori to Dennis Osadebay House in 2027 under the APC.
Many did not believe that the governor had done much for the party to warrant his endorsement for a second term.
The strong opposition against Governor Oborevwori’s second term under APC is rife among party faithfuls in Delta State, and stems mainly from the governor’s dashed hope and expectations.
It must be recalled that:
- On April 28th, 2027, Delta APC turned out in their large numbers to welcome Governor Oborevwori and members of the comatose PDP, into APC Delta, the occasion was graced with pump, and pageantry, and everybody was happy.
- The governor was automatically made the leader of the Delta APC without prejudice.
- Governor Oborevwori was subsequently endorsed by the party for a second term.
In spite of all the goodwill extended to the governor, by the party, he has only but stabbed the party by the back.
- Upon his defection to APC, Oborevwori directed the now enlarged APC (APC and PDP) leaders in all the wards in Delta State to submit names of 100 persons each per ward for a gift of N100,000 as a reconciliation empowerment package. This was done in early May 2025, and as at the moment of writing this piece, nobody amongst those captured in APC has received the Oborevwori’s peanut.
- Prior to the demise of the dreaded PDP Delta, chairmen of the defunct party were given N200m each monthly to service their structure, but since the union with APC, not a dime was released to the APC LGA chairmen for same purposes rather some of LGA and ward executives including leaders of the dead party have continued to draw huge monthly allowances from the government, with nothing given to APC LGA chairmen, ward chairmen and leaders.
- Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has reneged on an agreement to devolve and reconstitute his cabinet and boards of state government owned institutions and agencies to accommodate the interest of the old APC Delta in his government.
- APC local contractors are not patronized by Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
- Today, we have an administration in Delta State under APC but run by the defunct PDP, both in personnel and in policies and programs
- The shinked PDP has remained intact and continued to hold its usual nocturnal meetings
- Governor Oborevwori is starving Delta APC while fat feeding the defunct PDP. Thus using the instrument of hunger to currie loyalty from some old APC Delta faithfuls
- The governor is equally using the instrument of divide-and- rule to manipulate his way to a second term.
- He recently played host to NAS and some of his rebellious gangs in Government House Asaba, where the group sang his praises. Hosting a man who is reprimanded by the party for insubordination is a slap on the face of state party leadership of the APC.
- Furthermore, the visit of NAS to the governor left no one in doubt that he is aware and working in cohorts with NAS in his secret position swap misadventure
There are a whole lot of challenges arising from the collapsed of the crashed Delta PDP into APC that demanded attention. These problems are enough to occupy the mind of the governor rather than focusing attention on grabbing power.
Instead of harmonizing the party, the governor and his defunct PDP are rooting for the APC jugular. They want to take possession of the APC Delta structure, emasculate the party, castrate and render it impotent, and then move on to another partty after achieving their 2027 goals.
The cligue is hell-bent on taking Delta North Senatorial seat. But Anioma and the genuine APC members in the district people will not allow them to have their way.
From their actions and inaction, it has become very clear that their sheltering under APC is not in good faith but to completely destroy the party and trash it after using it to achieve their inordinate political ambitions.
Let us bear in mind that these people who destroyed the almighty Delta PDP with just a snap of their fingers are capable of doing unimaginable things. They should not be under estimated.
Therefore on no account should the defunct PDP be entrusted with the structure of APC Delta. The result of handing the structure of APC Delta to the defunct Delta PDP will be devastating.
The 2027 APC Delta, governorship tickets should not be given to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He has so far demonstrated leadership ineptitude.
The governor must revise his ways and be reminded that there is no free meal even in Freetown. He should do the needful now and avoid applying the PDP old tricks of giving appointments to people few months to elections.
