Asaba, Delta State, 28th July – A coalition of concerned stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has once again raised the alarm, calling on His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to urgently intervene in what they describe as a worsening political crisis in the state, triggered by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s style of handling party integration and internal relations.
The stakeholders, led by Chief Emma Ejiofor, Ph.D., noted that since Governor Oborevwori’s defection to the APC, his method of interacting with the long-standing members of the party has been marked by exclusion, disregard, and insensitivity to the sacrifices of the old APC structure.
They cited the Governor’s recent public declaration at a state function that “there will be no cabinet reshuffle” as an open indication that his administration has no intention of accommodating or rewarding loyal APC members who labored for years to build the party in Delta State. According to the stakeholders, such pronouncements confirm their fear that Oborevwori’s entry into the party was never about strengthening the APC but about consolidating his own hold on power.
“Mr. President, with every passing day, it becomes clearer that Governor Oborevwori does not mean well for our party,” stated Chief Ejiofor. “By sidelining the old APC faithful and openly declaring that his cabinet remains untouchable, he has sent a dangerous message that loyalty, sacrifice, and consistency mean nothing within our political family. His approach is widening divisions, eroding trust, and fueling disillusionment among our members.”
The stakeholders warned that if left unchecked, the Governor’s style could destabilize the party not only in Delta but also send a discouraging signal to APC structures nationwide. They highlighted several key dangers:
Erosion of Trust: Long-standing APC members feel betrayed and abandoned, with their sacrifices disregarded.
Disregard for Party Constitution: The refusal to properly harmonize with old APC structures undermines the principles of equity, fairness, and inclusiveness.
Fanning Factionalism: The Governor’s reliance on a closed circle of loyalists from his former party background risks creating factions that weaken the APC in Delta.
Jeopardizing Renewed Hope: Rather than complementing the President’s vision, Delta’s political atmosphere under Oborevwori’s approach threatens to derail it.
The stakeholders appealed directly to President Tinubu to act decisively by:
- Ordering an Immediate Review: Revisit the process of integration in Delta APC to ensure inclusivity and fairness.
- Ensuring Compliance with Party Guidelines: Enforce respect for the APC constitution and structures built by loyal members over the years.
- Reaffirming the Place of Loyalty: Demonstrate that loyalty, hard work, and sacrifice will always be rewarded in the APC, not sidelined.
“Mr. President, you have always been a master strategist and a leader who values loyalty,” Chief Ejiofor concluded. “We call on you to rescue Delta APC before the Governor’s approach does irreparable damage. We remain confident in your leadership and your Renewed Hope vision, but immediate intervention is necessary to restore unity and confidence in our party here in Delta.”
