The participation of Anioma people in making decisions on how Anioma is administered was the major reason our past leaders took up the fight for the creation of Anioma State. This struggle started during the colonial time and is currently being championed by distinguished Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the Senator representing the good people of Delta North Senatorial district in the 10th Senate.
There is no gain saying the fact that statehood will tremendously expand the political ecosystem of Anioma.
The bill sponsored by distinguished Senator Ned Munir Nwoko for the creation of Anioma State has no controversy as it specifically outlines the components of Anioma State to compromised the nine local government areas of Delta North Senatorial district, which are: Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North East, Ika South, Oshimili North , Oshimili South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani LGAs in alphabetical order.
More Local Government Areas to Be Created
The creation of Anioma State will automatically lead to the creation of more local government areas, and each of the existing local government areas is likely to be divided into two or more local government areas. In the end, Anioma State may likely have closed to 25 LGAs.
Federal Constituencies
As contained in the memorandum submitted to the Senate Committee on the Amendment of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the high-powered Technical Committee on the Creation of Anioma State, Anioma state will have nine federal constituencies , which are;
- Ndokwa North Federal Constituency
- Ndokwa Central Federal Constituency
- Ndokwa West Federal Constituency
- Ika North Federal Constituency
- Ika Central Federal Constituency
- Ika South Federal Constituency
- Aniocha/Oshimili North Federal Constituency
- Aniocha/Oshimili Central Federal Constituency and
- Aniocha/Oshimili South Federal Constituency.
Senatorial Districts
As contained in the memorandum under reference, Anioma State will have three Senatorial Districts, which are:
- Anioma East Senatorial District, comprising the following current Local Government Areas, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, and Ukwuani LGAs.
- Anioma Central Senatorial District, comprising the following current local government areas, Ika North East and Ika South LGAS.
- Anioma West Senatorial District, comprising the following current local government areas, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Oshimili North, and Oshimili South .
In addition to the above political institutions, the government of Anioma from the local government councils to the state level will be run by Anioma people, not by the South South people or South East politicians.
More also, statehood will make it mandatory for Anioma to be represented in the Federal Executive Council and be appointed chair of boards of the federal government institutions and agencies under every administration in Nigeria.
Anioma State creation is all about making governance closer to the people and enabling Anioma people to shape their destiny. Getting more Anioma people involved in decision-making on how the affairs of Anioma are going to be run for a greater development of every community in Anioma.
Anioma State will
Create huge job opportunities for our teaming unemployed youth.
Anioma State is progress and development. Those working against the creation of Anioma State are wizards who are motivated by envy, jealousy, and personal political engrandisment. They are enemies of progress and development of Anioma.
Anioma State is not Senator Ned Munir Nwoko’s project. It is the Anioma people’s project. As the champion of the current struggle, we owned it a duty to rally round him and give him the maximum support to get the job done.
Anioma State will be created because God is involved, our ancestors are involved, Anioma people want it, and a visionary determined Senator Ned Nwoko is on the driving seat.
