Open Letter To Rt. Hon. Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori, The Governor of Delta Stste

Date:

His Excellency,
Rt. Hon. Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori,
The Governor of Delta State,
Government House
Asaba.

A call for your urgent intervention to avert the impending extinction of the Idumuesah clan

Your Excellency,
I extend warm felicitations to you on your glorious 62nd birthday anniversary, and I hope this letter gets to you in good health and in merriment.

I am a patriotic Deltan and a concerned citizen of the Idumuesah clan in Ika North East Local Government of Delta State.
I am constrained to draw your attention to the troubling situation in the Idumuesah clan, my ancestral community.

My community is endangered due to the total absence of the Delta State Government presence in the community. There is not a single Delta State project in the community. The condition in the community is further worsened by the screwed urbanization and development policy of your predecessor, Senator Dr A. I. Okowa.

Your Excellency,
The Idumuesah clan is bedeviled with multiple problems, demanding immediate attention. These problems are;

A. Insecurity. Your Excellency, I commend the recent steps you took to boost security in Delta State. More such steps are needed in training, equipping, and empowering community vigilantes with the necessary laws and incentives to enable them to provide the first line of defense in their communities.
Herdsmen’s activities have driven my community into poverty and misery. The people can no longer go to their farms, which are their major sources of livelihood.

B. Roads. Your Excellency, your predecessor, awarded a contract to construct a one and a half kilometers of internal roads in the community since 2018, but these roads, being constructed poorly, remained uncompleted and abandoned since 2018.

C. Marketplace. Your Excellency, the Idumuesah clan has no market. The people of the community are always at the mercy of the weather on their Eke market days.

D. Health Facility. Your Excellency, there is a high mortality rate in Idumuesah. People are dying daily from preventable diseases due to the lack of an accessible health facility. Recall the 2020 yellow fever outbreak in the community that spread to other parts of the resulting in the loss of several lives. The situation could have been averted if there was a health facility in the community to diagonize diseases and curtail outbreaks.

E. Safe Learning Environment For Their children.Your Excellency, the Idumuesah Secondary School, the only Delta State owned Secondary School in the community, is partly fenced This has turned the school to targets of persistent vandalism and an abode of bandits, where kidnapped victims are held hostage. It is very unsafe for learning.

F. Screwed urbanization and development policy of Sen. Dr. Okowa’s administration. Your Excellency, the lopsided transformation of Owa Alero, the home community of your predecessor, which is a three minutes drive from Idumuesah, has resulted in mass migration of the Idumuesah people to Owa Alero. (People will naturally relocate to areas where they can enjoy a good living condition) The Idumuesah community considered Sen. Dr A I Okowa’s screwed development policy as a deliberate plot to depopulate the Idumuesah clan..

In summary, your Excellency, Idumuesah community, wants the abandoned internal road projects awarded since 2018, completed, they need light, portable drinking water, a marketplace, a cottage hospital, and a safe learning environment for their children. The Idumuesah Secondary School should be fenced completely. It is very unsafe for learning. .

Your Excellency, it is hoped that you treat this letter as an SOS, as concerned citizens of the Idumuesah clan have opted for the letter and put on hold initial plans to organize press conferences and a media tour of the community to draw the attention of the Federal government and the international community to the ugly effects of Sen. Dr A. I. Okowa’s urbanization of his Owa Alero community on the Idumuesah clan, a neighboring clan. He implemented a relocation and a depopulation policy in the Idumuesah clan
Able-bodied young men and women are leaving the community in droves, leaving behind an aged population.
This has affected the food production in the community, a recipe for annihilation.

Finally, Your Excellency, the Idumuesah community voted for you massively during the 2023 governorship election. They support your administration. They demand that you extend your RENEWED HOPE FOR MORE AGENDA to the community.

Yours sincerely

Frank O Iroroh
